My Name is Sarah Mitchell, and

This is My Grateful Dead Story

I still remember the evening of January 7, 1979, as if it were yesterday. My name is Sarah Mitchell, and at 19 years old, I found myself amidst the vibrant energy of Madison Square Garden in New York City, eagerly awaiting my first Grateful Dead concert. The air was thick with anticipation, and the collective excitement of thousands of fans created an atmosphere unlike any I had ever experienced.

As the lights dimmed and the band took the stage, the opening chords of "Jack Straw" filled the arena, sending waves of euphoria through the crowd. Each song seemed to build upon the last, culminating in an unforgettable rendition of "Shakedown Street" that had everyone dancing and singing along. That night, I felt a profound connection—not just to the music, but to the community and the sense of belonging that the Grateful Dead fostered.

Decades later, while reminiscing about that transformative night, I discovered the Cynthia Gale New York collection dedicated to the Grateful Dead. The moment I laid eyes on the Dancing Bear Spinner Ring, memories of that evening at Madison Square Garden came rushing back. The meticulous craftsmanship and attention to detail made it more than just a piece of jewelry; it was a tangible link to a pivotal moment in my life. Wearing it, I carry the spirit of that night with me, a constant reminder of the joy and unity that the Grateful Dead brought into my world.

Dead Heads All Around The World

In their fifty years together, the Grateful Dead forever altered the way in which popular music is performed, recorded, heard, marketed and shared. From the very beginning in 1965, the Dead distinguished themselves by their preference for live performance, musical and business creativity, and an unprecedented dedication to their fans.

Perhaps the best known Grateful Dead Insignia--the Steal Your Face logo--was designed by Owsley Stanley and artist Bob Thomas, and was originally used to mark the band’s sound equipment. This exquisite sterling silver jewelry collection from Cynthia Gale celebrates iconic Grateful Dead imagery for Dead Heads all around the world.
