New York City Skyline Collection

Irving Browning (1895-1961) is celebrated today as a master documetarian of the heart of New York City. A self-taught photographer and cinematographer, he opened a commercial photography studio in New York City in the early 1920’s. Skilled in appealing portrayal of new buildings, Irving and his younger brother Sam photographed exteriors and interiors of theatres, hotels, apartment buildings, residences, rooftops and dramatic skylines. The City That Never Sleeps collection is inspired by the New-York Historical Society’s Irving Browning collection, which consists of 1,885 gelatin silver photographic prints, as well as ephemera relating to Irving Browning’s career as a photographer and cinematographer. Images date from 1918 to 1952.

A portion of your purchase of an original Cynthia Gale art inspired design goes to The New-York Historical Society to support their cultural mission.
